GSC celebrates 50 years of American Studies program on Thursday

On Thursday, October 18, the Global Studies Center will celebrate 50 years of the American Studies Diploma Program (AMS)– interdisciplinary program for international students to complete a year of work in the study of American society and culture– with special guest and AMS alumna Vera Kutzinski ’79, Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Vanderbilt University.

The day begins with a Global Salon Breakfast exploring Smith’s American Studies Diploma Program and the world. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. with a conversation about the AMS program and light refreshments. In the afternoon,  Vera Kutzinski will give a keynote address about American Studies and Globalization. The Smith community is invited to attend the address (which begins at 4:30 p.m. in Seelye 201) and subsequent reception honoring the contributions of current and former directors, Peter Rose, Jim Hicks, and Lane Hall-Witt.
