Smith’s CISCO members delight with Qipao show at Chinese Moon Festival.
Every year Smith’s Chinese Inter-regional Student Cultural Organization (CISCO), holds a celebration for the Chinese Moon Festival in the Campus Center.
Offering free bubble tea and mooncakes, this year’s event (held on Saturday, September 21) was both entertaining and enriching! Smith students prepared three-song melodies of both English and Chinese songs. In front of a large audience, the students flawlessly sang in both English and Chinese, keeping to the lunar theme. At times the crowd even joined in.
The event also featured a Qipao fashion show where Smithies walked in traditional silk dresses; while the fashion show happened, someone on stage wrote Chinese characters in calligraphy. At the end of the Qipao show, the students fashioning their dresses lifted the calligraphy for the crowd to see and exquisite Chinese characters filled the page calling further a joyous Chinese Moon Festival.
The very last act was a song presented by both CISCO’s executive board and Smith’s Eastern Asian Language department. Smith students, professors, and members of the Northampton community joined together in a very successful tribute of the Chinese Moon Festival.
