Smith logo black (two lines)The Smith College Club of Paris had a busy September and early October, hosting four events thus far.

On September 10, the club hosted a young alumnae cocktail party for Smithies who graduated between 2000 and 2013. The party allowed guests to make new friends, reconnect with old friends, and spend time at the home of a Paris-based alumna.

Just a week later, the club hosted Indian alumna Jaya Jaitley ’63. An iconic figure on the Indian national scene and a powerhouse for the preservation and promotion of India’s arts and crafts, Jaya was touted as “a brilliant example of women in the world that Smith College helps train”. As the curator of “Crafting Indian Scripts”–a show visiting the UNESCO headquarters in Paris–Jaya took Smith Club members on a private tour of the show. Master craftsmen and calligraphers were also on hand giving demonstrations. The visit was followed by a get-togehter at the home of Eda Pallier ’57.

Then, on September 26, the Smith College Club of Paris hosted a welcome party for juniors currently participating in Smith’s Junior Year Abroad program in Paris. Attendees were able to meet Doris Deng ’10 of Hong Kong, witness JYA Director Peter Bloom being presented with a check from the club for cultural stipends, and partake in a potluck supper.

For their first October event, the Smith Club in Paris was treated to a private tour of the of the popular and held-over Ron Mueck show at the Fondation Cartier, guided by curator Leanne Sacramone ’89.

More events are planned for the fall, including an event to celebrate the inauguration of Smith’s new president, Kathleen McCartney.
