So. Bored.

So I finished my paper yesterday night because I thought I was going to hang out with Zeinab’s family today. That didn’t work out, so now I’m stuck in the apartment with nothing to do. I can’t even go out because it’s Shabbat. Everyone is working on their papers, so I can’t hang out with them, and there’s only so much TV you can watch. Nick told me I should go around and take picture of everyone working. Well, Eliana refused and Karina was out, but here are some gems from Nick, Rebekah, and Sarah:

He's not pleased.

This is before she knew that I was posting this on the blog. It's such a gem though that I decided to just edit out the offending bits.

Looking good.

So. Now I am going to play some online games, and make cookies. This is driving me crazy. I really don’t enjoy this part of Shabbat 🙁

Nick’s expression is priceless, Rebekah’s is classic (does she really need a hood in the Middle East in the summer?), and Sarah seems to be smiling amid what is surely very deep thinking. Never before have I heard a student complain that she is bored because she finished a paper too early, but there is always a first! Sleep, rest, read (I have more recommendations), reorganize your email inbox, figure out a workable peace plan…

PS. Tell Nick that I zoomed in on his computer screen and noticed a typo…

Looks as if Nick just got a haircut. Rebekah, is it cold in the suite? And how did those cookies turn out, Sarah? Will you share the recipe? Will it be entered in the COOKBOOK?
I am anxiously awaiting the announcement of the new president of Egypt? Could be a busy day for those of us following events in the Middle East.

Yes, they put on the air conditioning. And I made the cookies! They were very good. Peanut butter flavored. I saw who won the election… not sure what it means for Israel though- do you think they’ll take immediate action?

I cannot imagine that with all of the immediate problems and challenges confronting Morsy, he will have time to think of Israel. He has very little time in office before another election if the SCAF decrees are followed. He has a power struggle with the military, police, old regime still in control of some institutions like the judiciary. No rational person would want power in a country with 40% illiteracy. So, I think the large immediate problem for Israel is the border security along in Sinai and the prospect of another failed state on its borders. Morsy’s election may be more immediately ominous for the monarchies in the region–Jordan and Morocco–where kings are struggling against Islamist parties and movements. But we shall see how this all evolves.
