It’s always amazing to me how small Israel. Not in terms of actual geographic size but in terms of the people. On my last trip here last summer I was at Mahane Yehuda when I ran into one of my second cousins who lives five minutes away from me in the States. That has nothing on this trip. So far I have run into a girl I went to Middle School with at the Shuk, at the King David Hotel, and then again while she was doing laundry. This led to the discovery that she was actually here for the semester learning and lives in one of the student dorms. This was followed by finding out that two of my closest friends were actually here visiting for a week and that our trips overlapped. Unfortunately I couldn’t get to see them but the fact that they just happened to be here was great. My last encounter with a friend from the past has everything beat. As previous posts might show I have been going to the local gym a lot and its always a cultural experience. When I was walking into the gym on Wednesday at a different time than I usually go, I saw a familiar face. It was a friend that I had done a foreign summer program with in 2007. She just happened to be leaving as I was entering. We talked for a bit and she is actually here for the summer staying at the Student Dorms but I would have never known if I had come five minutes earlier. I don’t know if just know a lot of people who come to Israel but it’s always entertaining to see who I might run into next.
