Disentangling large, free swimming whales, dolphins and porpoises, seals, and sea turtles.

Dolphin and Whale Hospital and Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Hospital at Mote Marine Laboratory
Assist veterinarians and research scientists in beach rescue of live animals, animal care during rehabilitation, carcass recovery, necropsies, and water quality and life support system maintenance.  Volunteers are required to take an Animal Handlers class provided by lab.

Marine Mammal Conservancy
Volunteer opportunities available to assist in strandings and marine mammal care.

Hawaii Cetacean Rehabilitation Facility
Volunteer opportunities within the Stranding Facility.  Volunteers become involved with education, live animal responses and rehabilitations, dead animal recovery, event planning, fundraising and more.  Must be at least 18 years old.

Internships

Marine Mammal Conservancy
Internships available for college level freshmen to graduate students.
Job Description
Working a variety of projects in marine mammal husbandry and related fields.  Daily tasks include marine mammal release protocol research, database collections and programming, community service organization and programming, advocacy research and work, public awareness programming, water quality and environmental research and testing, basic facility and area maintenance, wild marine mammal tracking and research and animal husbandry and care.

Education
Background in biology, zoology, prelaw, pre-vet, chemistry, political science, environmental law, degree in zoos and aquaria, marine mammal science, veterinary technicians, recreation, tourism and/or administration.

Internships at Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center, Maine
Job Description

Assist with all aspects of veterinary care and husbandry of sick and injured seals, cetaceans, and/or sea turtles.  Other responsibilities include daily care of animals, transport of live/dead marine animals, water quality testing, maintenance of daily food and medical records, necropsy, education/docent tours and computer entry of data.
