Where is it?

The Library Sign Lab is located on the 2nd floor of Neilson Library in room 213, near the DVD collection. Go up the main stairs from the lobby to the 2nd floor, take a right and go ~100 feet, then look for colorful vinyl cut lettering on your right. Come say hi!

What’s a Sign Lab?

The Library Sign Lab provides avenues for whimsical wayfinding within in the current structure of Neilson Library. The project consists of creating signs using a vinyl cutter and installing them throughout the library that lead students to useful and sometimes-hidden library spaces and resources, surprising and delighting them in the process. Some signs may be directional, while others may be used to rename and thus redefine existing underused spaces. Signs may be designed by library staff, faculty, and students, and anyone can suggest a sign!

How can I get involved?

There are lots of ways! We’re looking to interact with the community and make this lab an accessible and collaborative space for everyone at Smith. You can:

  • Design A Sign for Neilson
  • Visit us during Open Lab Hours on Tuesdays 1-4 and Wednesdays 10-12
  • Sign up for our newsletter (coming soon!)
