Here is yet another opportunity for us to engage in Russian history and culture. Apparently, a tour for a school group is four dollars per person, and we can request a tour from the founder of the museum, Gordon Lankton. Heh, there’s also a scavenger hunt upon request.

“[The] collection spans six centuries, and includes important historical icons dating from the earliest periods of icon painting up to the present.” It’s full of art that looks mostly like this:

There’s a large Russian community in Springfield, MA. One of the Russian department faculty told me about a Russian grocery store where we could stock up on treats and ingredients.

There are also a number of Russian churches in Springfield that might be of interest if we take a trip to this area.

Who wants to go on a roadtrip? Last semester, Lauren suggested that an outing to Brighton Beach might be fun, and doable. The area is full of folks from Odessa, Ukraine, (and many other peoples; a lot of diversity in this area) and thus cute shops, restaurants and an all Russian bookstore.

Brighton Beach is about 175 miles away, or three hours and 23 minutes, according to google maps. We’d have to organize vans and drivers.
