POLITY CLUB The Smith College Polity Club was founded in 1917, its object being the study and discussion of international policies and problems during and after World War I. While there was at first some concern that so-called “pacifism” within the ranks of the club would either lead to or be seen as “pro-Germanism,” it was eventually determined that “there was no taint of pacifism in training men to think and to talk intelligently about the was issues” and that “if we believe in this war as an attempt to end war, the International Polity Clubs should be cultivated in every possible way.”
