“I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.” ~Douglas Adams

Stress.  Deadlines.  Juggling time.  Losing sleep.  This is a busy time of year for many of us.  You probably feel like you don’t have time to even read this.  But, bear with me, read on; maybe you’ll feel better.

If you are reading this right now, you’re likely taking a break from all your obligations…or, you’re procrastinating.  The reason doesn’t matter.  We’re here and we’re in this together.  What can we do right now to alleviate the effects of stress on our minds and bodies?

1. Breathe.
2. Breathe deeply.
3. Think of one thing, person, activity, or memory that brings you nothing but joy.  Dwell there for a moment.
4. Breathe deeply into your belly…slowly breathe out.
5. Take a minute to google funny videos on youtube, i.e. kittens, puppies, babies…
6. When you’re done reading this, rub your hands together and cover your eyes with your palms.  Relax in the dark warmth for as many breaths as you want.
7. Set your cell phone alarm for 15-20 min. from now.  Give yourself that much time to lie down, let go, and come back to zero.  If you fall asleep, great!  If not, try to keep your thoughts on your breathing and observe the sensations in your body as your blood flow and heart rate slow down.  You’ll be amazed at how much 15 min. can give back to you.
8. Take a brisk short walk.  The world is your gym!
9.  Keep your tasks in perspective.  Imagine your best possible future and where you intend to be a few years from now.  Go there happily in your mind.  Expect the best!
10. Things always have a way of working themselves out.  Let them.
