Other Notes

  • We live in bodies that sometimes prevent us from feeling, thinking, and doing as well as we’d like. If you have a disability and need accommodations in this course, please contact the Office of Disability Services in College Hall 104 or at ods@smith.edu as soon as possible to ensure that we can implement accommodations in a timely manner.

  • Sonder is a noun, meaning “the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.”

  • As a student, you may experience a range of issues that can cause barriers to learning. These might include strained relationships, anxiety, high levels of stress, alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, or loss of motivation. Smith College Counseling Services may help with these or other issues you may experience. You can learn about the free, confidential mental health services available on campus by calling 413-585-2840 or visiting their website. Help is always available.
