We at Conbust are committed to keeping our convention open and accessible to everyone, so this year we are implementing a scholarship system with 15 available spots. We hope that this will help make our convention more financially accessible to those who otherwise would be unable to afford our prices. If you are approved for the scholarship you will receive a free three-day pass to Conbust that you will be able to pick up from the front desk during the convention by showing a piece of identification that corresponds to the name you used to apply to the scholarship. This will prevent people from picking up a pass that is not theirs. Each applicant is limited to one free pass.
As this will be the second year with this system is in place, we are attempting to keep it simple. If you wish to apply, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Conbust Scholarship Submission” by February 28th (late submissions will not be viewed). Your email should include the following information:
Reason for Scholarship (Optional):
You will be contacted via email by March 7th if you have received a free pass, and you must reply with a confirmation by March 10th or your pass will be given to another applicant. Please note this is not a first-come-first-serve system. We will carefully review the applications in order to give the 15 passes to those who need it most.
In these applications, Conbust is looking for a claim of financial hardship, a description of your interest in attending the convention, and your name as it appears on your I.D. (you will be able to fill out your preferred name and pronouns on your badge after you pick up the pass). We’d also prefer these applications be short (no more than a paragraph or two).
If you do not wish to provide a reason for the scholarship for privacy reasons we understand, but that will make you less likely to receive a pass. Only this year’s Conchairs will see your applications and the emails will be deleted after ConBust 2018 to ensure the privacy of our congoers.
The legitimacy of an applicant’s claims does not require documented proof of financial hardship (bank statements, financial aid letters, et cetera). Conbust would prefer you not share these types of documents for legal reasons.
By submitting an application, we expect that you have read and agree to the above. Since this is the first year we are implementing this, if anything is unclear please contact us via our email or Facebook so we can answer your questions.
