The Inception of Dies Legibiles!

Hey there! Thanks for checking us out!

We are an undergraduate journal of medieval history at Smith College, founded September 2020 by students Gwen Ellis and Alexandra Domeshek. Our primary mission is to challenge normative discourse on the Middle Ages, mainly Eurocentrism, by publishing student research pertaining to a wide variety of topics (including art, art history, language, translation, and religion) and to a wide range of geographical regions. Our publication hopes to facilitate discourse and, of course, provide a platform for fellow students to showcase their work.

Oh, and if you’re wondering about the name: “dies legibiles” is a phrase which was used in academic calendars at Oxford University in the 14th century to denote days on which classes and disputations were to be held. Join us in keeping that spirit of debate alive!
