When you must buy, where should you go?
Paper Products and Books
Paper
Over
80% of the world’s old growth forests have already been destroyed; try
to buy recycled paper.
Reuse
the backsides of old sheets of paper, or make them into notebooks.
Crash
Course in Terminology:
Post-Consumer
Waste (PCW) ? The amount of recycled material in the product. The higher
the percentage the better (preferably 100%). A “Recycled” label may only
mean that paper scraps swept from the floor of the plant have been reprocessed.
Chlorine Free ? Trees are brown and paper is white. How is this? Chlorine is used as a bleaching agent in paper productions. Chlorine is discharged in the wastewater from production and runs off into soils and groundwater sources, which poses serious environmental and human health threats. Look for chlorine free paper.
Tree-free ? Paper can be made from hemp, plastic, banana stalks, or textile remnants.
Where
to Buy Recycled or Tree-free Paper:
*
Acme Surplus (sometimes has recycled paper products) ? Thornes Market,
Northampton.
*
