Amelia Peláez

Amelia Peláez y de Casal was one of the few female members of the Cuban vanguardia, a group that helped Cuba discover and develop a sense of nationalism. She used her paintings to portray themes of femininity and architecture, using thick black lines and bright colors in her trademark cubist style. Her art has been shown in the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Art, Museum of Plastic Arts of the city of La Plata, National museum of Havana, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and is in private collections all over Europe and America.
