He’s stuck with a cast, which probably means no patrol duty for him for quite a while. I can relate to being unable to resist the children though.

この本はとてもかんたんたから日本語一年生にもぜんぜんむずかしくないと思います。時間があまりない時でも読むのができますよ!だからみんなにおすすめです!!

緑の豚(みどりのぶた)

この本はおもしろかったっです。でも日本語1年生はしらないexpressionがすこしあります。For example、the phrases “とくべつ”、“泣きました”、“いろがかわりませんでした” are usually not familiar to a 日本語1年生。それから、ときどき grammar errorがあると思います。For example, “ざーざーふりです”じゃなくて“ザーザーふります”だと思います。でもストリはたのしかったです。それからこの本はえがとても!!とてもきれいです。I seriously envy the author’s art skills.なかなかおもしろい本でした。

みつはさんは、ちよさんに、でんわをかけます。

みつはさんは、ちよさんに、でんわをかけます。ちよさんは、みつはさんのてつだうとききました。すうがくのしゅくだいは むずかしいから。

This was a really easy book to read because senpai only used the grammar and vocabulary we learned. However, I felt like the story shifted a little too much from helping Chiyo with math homework to discussing what to eat. It felt like they were planning to go hang out instead. Therefore I gave the book four stars. But I highly recommend to 1st-year students.

ただいま 木村家の毎日

木村の毎日「ただいま」

この本はとてもかわいくて、やさしです。It is about the 木村family. There are four people in the family: お母さん、お父さん、their daughter 由美、and their son 一郎。One day, あとで お父さんと由美と一郎はうちに帰ります、they prepare a surprise birthday celebration for お母さん!

This is a simple story with simple vocabulary and grammar structures. It is a great read for Japanese 110 students looking to refresh on the things we have learned in class. It is also just a very sweet story of a kind and caring family!

京子さんは森に行きます

この本はとてもたのしくて、おもしろいです。It is about two cats、京子さんと京子さんのいもうと、マヤちゃん。The siblings love each other very much but Kyoko sometimes gets bored of their house. One day, Kyoko goes on an adventure in the forest. During her adventure, she meets a butterfly, another cat and a dog. By the end, she has enjoyed herself but is happy to be home and has a new appreciation for her home’s safety and peacefulness.

This was a really cute and enjoyable book. The pictures are とてもかわいいです。I wonder if they are pictures of the author’s real cats?!?

I would definitely recommend this book for Japanese 110 students.  It was a fun and quick read which used a lot of different vocabulary and grammar structures which we work on in class.

冬のさんぽ

この本はとてもかわいいです。The drawings are すごくきれいで、おもしろいです。It is a very charming book about the winter adventures of two friends, アンナとリース。The two kids play in the snow, meet an adorable dog and eventually arrive at a warm and cozy restaurant with おいし食べもの!

As I previously mentioned, the quality of the art in this book is really amazing. Combined with the charming story, it makes this book a thoroughly delightful read. It also made me nostalgic as it reminded me of many of my childhood winter adventures with my friends, growing up in Minnesota.

I definitely recommend this book, particularly to my fellow first-year Japanese students. I will caution that there is a decent amount of unfamiliar vocabulary in the book so it is not one of the easier level 0/tadoku books.  この本はやさしいくない。However, it is well worth the effort it takes to read it!

笑い話

この本はすごくおもしろいです。あたらしいたんごとぶんぽうがあります、でも、ストーリーはむずかしくないです。たのしかったです。絵がきれいです。This book contains 4 jokes in a Japanese cultural context.

I recommend this book to Japanese 110 students, because the book is really fun to read and the grammar is really common and useful. There are some new words, but the pictures help me understand. Sometimes they didn’t use the polite forms of verbs because of the context. I found this useful, giving us an idea of the non-polite usage of Japanese language. Also the  jokes are ironic and reflective of some social phenomena, so I strongly recommend this book.

田代島

この本はおもしろくて、たのしです。It is about a place called 田代島(Tashirojima).  田代島でたくさんねこがいます。The cats and humans on the island get along very well and the cats are very happy there. たぶん、田代島にいぬをつれてきてはいきませんから!

I would recommend this book to my fellow first-year Japanese students because it is a quick (about 5 minutes) and enjoyable read, especially if you like cats! It also has very lovely and inventive illustrations.  However, I would recommend that it is not the very first Tadoku book you read as it is ちょっとむずかしいです。たくさんかんじがありますから。

I really like this book and this is composed of two little stories. このほんはとてもおもしろくて、やさしです。 キツネは頭がいいが、ネズミはとても頭がよくなかったです。ネズミは肉をを持って、歌いました。だから、肉はありませんでした。キツネは盗みましたから.

I really recommend this book to the first year Japanese students. By telling the stories in familiar adjectives and past tense we have practiced in the class, I feel more confident when reading the Japanese books. Also, this folktale about the fox and crow could be very familiar to many of us that always has been told in our childhood. As a result, it is a lot more easier for us to understand the story. But I borrowed it from Umass library so you may check this book online.
