Hello, my name is Daisy Paez and I have been working on a special studies project for the spring 2019 semester called: Past and Present Latinx Students at Smith College.
Throughout the summer of 2018, I was working as the teaching assistant for the summer programs at Smith and was curious to see what I could find in the archives on LASO and Latinx students. Upon finding two boxes for the organization, formally known as Nosotr@s, I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t find the diaries, letters, or stories that I had seen for other students in the archive. At the same time, LASO was having a hard time getting in touch with alums. We didn’t have a set list anywhere and there wasn’t a way from both current students and alums to interact.
This special studies project will hopefully function as both a working archive and network for Latinx students and alums of Smith College. There is a key feature that I hope everyone decides to contribute to: THE NARRATIVES! Even if you don’t see a topic of interest to you, please write about your experience at Smith!
