Misleading diagram of genital development

This is a 2009 cartoon of genital development from a human embryology textbook.  At least 4 components are misleading.

1) As illustrated, the neutral genital tubercle becomes a phallus (usually a gendered term) by 9 weeks but other regions are not gendered.

2) Other reproductive regions obtain gendered names at 12 weeks but the female side retains the ‘legs’ used for the prior, more infantile conditions.

3) An even more subtle difference is that the arrow to the male side is longer, again suggesting that the female condition is closer to the infantile state.

4) Finally, in the late fetus (8-9 mo) cartoon, the female genitalia have become smaller, but the male structures have not.

Thus, the overall impression is that female genitalia are infantile and not as developed as male genitalia.
