About Love Your Body Day

Smith's Love Your Body Day was first held on Saturday, February 26th, 2005 in the Campus Center 103/104. Size Matters, Feminists of Smith Unite, AWARE, Tangent, Peer Sexuality Educators and Healthy Heads tabled and put on workshops, including those dealing with sizeism, self defense, sex pictionary and radical menstruation. In addition, presentations and workshops were given on tantric meditation and sex toys. There was scale smashing, a Tummy Love art project, a speculum given out and tons of stuff for sale, ranging from t-shirts to zines to patches to luna pads

Smith's LYBD was inspired by the National Organization for Women's National Love Your Body Day, which began in 1998 as a campaign to "[speak] out against harmful and offensive advertisements and media images of women and girls, while promoting positive portrayals in popular culture." National LYBD is traditionally held in the fall, but in order to give ourselves time to organize a successful campus-wide event, it was decided that Smith's day would be in February.

This year the different orgs are bringing a great array of workshops and presentations to Smith for Love Your Body Day. For more information on what will be going on, as well as Size Matters' participation in LYBD, check out the other parts of this site or drop us an email at size@smith.edu!
