The following is a questionnaire that explores issues of mental health for Asian/Pacific Islander (API) mental health clinicians and API consumers of mental health. Your feedback will be used to create a web site that would address various questions and concerns pertinent to other professionals and to API consumers. Responses to the following questions will remain anonymous unless you give permission to use your name in conjunction with the response. When returning this form, please include your highest degree and professional discipline.  

Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability.  It is fine to focus on one ethic group.  You may respond to any or all of them -- they are big and complex questions.   Please e-mail your response to: irli928@hotmail.com

• How would you explain what mental illness is to an API client? To a non-API client?
• How would you explain therapy to an API client? To a non-API client?
• How would you explain the use of medications to an API client? To a non-API client?
• How would you respond to an API client who was not cooperating with treatment? Would you get the client’s family involved?
• How important do you think family involvement is when dealing with an API client? When dealing with a non-API client?
• What have you found to be difficult when dealing with an API client? How did you deal with this issue? Is this same difficulty apparent when dealing with a non-API client? Why do you think there is a difference or similarity when dealing with this difficulty?
• What have you found to be easy when dealing with an API client? Have you found this to be similar or different when dealing with non-API clients?
• What advice would you give to other professionals who work with API clients?
• If you are an API professional, what have you found to be difficult when working with another API client who is similar to you? With another API client who is not similar to you? To a non-API client? What have you found to be easy when working with an API client who is similar to you? Not similar to you? With a non-API client?
• If you are a non-API professional who works with API clients, what have you found difficult when working with an API client? What have you found to be easy?
• If you have knowledge of Asian/Eastern methods (e.g. Qigong, etc.), do you utilize this in your practice? Has this been easy? What advice would you give to other professionals who might be trying to integrate Eastern and Western techniques?
