Qualitative research is not a single unified tradition (as is quantitative research) but instead a family of related approaches with different 

1) purposes, 
2) epistemologies, 
3) methods, 
4) strengths, and 
5) limitations
(Denzin & Lincoln, 1994; Drisko, 1997; Sherman & Reid, 1994, Tesch, 1990).
