Remarks: By 1900, the service and schedules on the Erie and the New Haven had become the butt of endless jokes. Note the be-whiskered engineer of locomotive number 1492, festooned with shrubbery it has apparently plowed through, along with the turtle on the track, that is apparently in no danger.
