Remarks: An rear end collision in the Fourth Avenue tunnel on September 22, 1882 and a similar wreck at Spuyten Duyvil earlier in the year brought down the wrath of the press. Here Vanderbilt-- surrounded by lazy, incompetent, or young employees -- looks like little man overwhelmed by events.
