Remarks: This image accompanies an article entitled "Long Island Sound Fenced In." The New Haven went on a buying spree to obtain a monopoly of transportation in southern New England, obtaining control of other railroads, ship lines and -- the spark that led to this image -- electric interurbans. Alas, it overpaid for its assets, sending the company on its long slow road to bankruptcy and oblivion.
