Gabriel  Carnevale [Carlevale] {Gregory XIII}

Soprano; Cuencha; admitted 26 July  1574  by a vote of 11 in favor out of 17;  DS  lists of July  1577  and June  1578 ;  mandati : January  1580 -June  1581 .

Carnevale did not join the chapel with the wholehearted approval of the other singers. In fact, he technically should have been rejected as not having received the required 2/3 plus 1 favorable votes (which out of 17 voting should have been 12 votes, not the 11 he actually got). The problem was his knowledge of  contrapunctus : the singers agreed to admit him on probation on the condition that he pass the  contrapunctus  test within six months. This he must have done, since he remained a member of the choir until  1581 .
