Voice designation (if known); Diocese (followed by place of birth if known); places of employment previous to the papal chapel (if known); date of entry into the choir (if known, if not known, then the date of the earliest documentary reference to the person as a papal singer); mandati lists containing the singer’s name (see Documentary Appendix for the full lists); other lists containing the singers name (see Documentary Appendix); for singers employed during the reigns of Julius II, Leo X, and the beginning of the reign of Clement VII, a list of unpublished beneficial documents, followed by a list of published beneficial documents; employment after leaving the papal chapel (if known); date of death (if known); remarks; offices in the chapel held by the singer.

Further remarks relating only to the singer’s service in the papal chapel (for full biographies of major figures, the reader is referred to standard reference works such as The New Grove).
