Johannes [Juan]  Sanchez [ Sanches, Sances, de Tineo]  {Clement VII-Paul IV}

Tenor; Seville; earliest reference, supplication list of [   1525 - 1526   ]; receipt lists of [   1525 - 1526   ] and December   1526  ;  mandati : August-September   1529  , April   1530  -December  1539 , August  1542 -March  1558 ; unpublished beneficial documents: RV 1348, fols. 12v-14v: bull dated 3 September 1531; had  died  outside of Rome by 27 October  1572 ;  punctator  in  1552 .

Sanchez's service to the choir was interrupted first by the Sack of Rome (he is said to be "nuper remissus" in the  mandati  list of August   1529  ) and second by his own intemperate actions. On 9 January  1540 , Sanchez struck Ghisilin Dankerts, the punctator, during Mass in the Sistine Chapel in the presence of the Host; on 17 January, he was in prison because of the scandal he had caused and the singers sent Pedro Ordòñes to the pope in Corneto to negotiate in his behalf; on 25 January, Sanchez was stricken from the list of papal singers by papal order; but on 3 August,  1542 , he was readmitted to the choir, but without seniority (he appears at the bottom of the list).
