Events
SASA
just came out of coordinating the annual
International African
Students Associan conference in conjunction with
Amherst,
Hampshire and Mt Holyoke colleges. The conference
was entitled
"Marching forward to a new Africa".
Between all
events and activities it was attened by more than
500 participants
from all around the United States.
SASA
also had its senior dinner on May
28, 2002.
The
next SASA event will be in the Fall semester. Of
the annual
events, the first one will be SASA Fall Jam, an
evening
of dinner with cuisine from the African Diaspora.
Most of
the dishes for this dinner are prepared by SASA
members
themselves! This event followed by an actual
"Jam",
where you'll get to hear and enjoy contemporary
music from
Africa and the Caribbean.
Following
that will be anothr fund raiser at around February,
surprsingly
called the Spring SASA Jam. SASA normally hires an
African
or a Caribbean restaurant to cater for this event,
and of
course the day ends with a party.
The
culmination of SASA's events comes around the end
of April:
Africa Week. This is a week dedicated to a weeklong
events
ranging from lectures, debates and film screenings
to "Cafe
Afrique", a sampling of coffee from Africa. On
the
Saturday of this week, Africa Day, SASA hosts a key
note
speaker to bring activits of the week together.
SASA's largest
dinner and party follow.
There
is of course mor to SASA than our annual events
listed above.
Keep tuned to find out more about things that will
be coming
you way.
